A garage door spring installation is not for people who do not have the knowledge and the expertise.

Hence, it is always recommended that you reach out to a garage door installation in Baltimore.

However, to give you a guide, here are some tips that technicians usually take in garage door spring installation.

Ensure that the garage door is closed.

It is essential that the garage door is closed in order to give the spring easy access.

To prepare for this, you should make sure that you have all your tools ready.

Make sure that the garage door opener is disconnected as well.

As a safety precaution, you can keep the door from opening by affixing a C-clamp to the track above the roller that is found at the bottom on each side of the garage door.

    Remove the old springs.

By means of a wrench, simply loosen the two sets of screws that are found on the winding cone.

Then, simply insert the winding bar into the bottom hole of the cone.

Ensure that tla firm grip is kept on the winding bar.

After this, you will feel that the spring is expanding as the screws loosen.

To remove the springs, unwind each of them using the two winding bars.

Then, have the second bar positioned into another hole that is located on the cone.

When all of the springs on the door have been unwound and there is no more tension, make use of a wrench to have the bolts removed, which connects the spring to the center bracket.

After that, loosen the set screws that are found on the cable drums using your wrench.

Once they have been loosened, with the removal of the nuts and bolts, you can then remove the lift cables and detach the drums from the torsion shaft.

    Install the springs.

Before starting on the garage door spring installation, you should check for any worn parts that have been rusted so that they can be replaced.

For instance, ensure that the bearings are fluidly moving.

If they are not, simply use a silicone spray lubricant for your garage door so that it can move smoothly.

When this does not work, just buy new bearing plates along with your new torsion springs.

In the installation, you should start with the left spring and then place it on the torsion shaft, just like how you detached it from earlier.

Then, replace the cable drum on the other side of the garage door, if the door itself makes use of two springs.

After the cable drums have been installed, just focus the torsion shaft in the plates.

Next, fasten the stationary cones to the center plate by means of the nuts and bolts that have been removed.

Afterward, place the cables by putting the cable back to the cable drum at the left, and then put the cable stop into the area on the drum.

To make sure that the torsion shaft is in place, simply put a vice-grip.

Then, wind the cable around the drum.

Fasten it with the set screws.

Just leave the vice grip there and then do the same for the cable drum on the right.

Each side needs equal tension so ensure that each of the cable drums is tightened with the same amount of tension.

Use the winding bars to put tension on the springs.

Make sure that you have reached the amount of tension properly, then fasten the set screws again on the cones.

Remove the vice-grips and the c-clamps that you used earlier.

Check the balance of the door and lift it.

If the door stays in place, the garage door spring installation is successful.
